California, Here I Come!

You may have noticed the quote under my picture on the left there. In February, Elliott and I went to a dinner put on by the BYU Alumni Association here. The speaker was wonderful woman who has 8 or 9 children, and managed to get her Masters degree in Family Science after the youngest was in grade school. I wish I could remember her name, but alas, my brain doesn't work that well!

Anyway, she talked about parenting, and it was very interesting, but the one thing she said that really stuck with me was the quote I put up there. It is true that motherhood can be a great challenge, but I really think that if we aren't finding joy, we aren't doing it right.

I don't find joy in dirty diapers, but I sure do love seeing all of Sophie's cute little creases when I do change one. There are probably numerous examples of times when there are things in motherhood that are unpleasant, but they are balanced by things I love.

That said, we are about to embark on a 5 hour plane trip (not so fun), at the end of which we will get to have fun with cousins and enjoy near perfect weather (I looked: sunny and low 80's for the next 10 days!)

See you all soon!

I love that quote! It's true what you said to find the joy in all of it. For example, I hate it when Emily throws her fits. But, through them, I can see how much she resembles me... :)
