We invited a few families over for a BBQ and fireworks. It was a blast (literally!)
The kids helped us get ready by shucking the corn... It was more fun than they thought it would be.

After dinner we had fun with the sparklers.

After a second degree burn on his finger,
Andrew took a break and decided to watch.
(Isn't he looking old???)
Emma and her friend Emily... we had 2 Emma's and 2 Emily's,
and they are all adorable 4 year olds!

Every year Elliott gets braver and braver with the fireworks. With the help of our friends Randy and Yi, he put on a good show after dark, but I think he is already planning bigger and better for next year. Surprisingly, this year was the first year I wasn't nervous about the bigger fireworks. Hmmm, I'm sensing a new family tradition.

That's too bad about Andrew's burn; I hope he's feeling better. I got burned by a firework when I was Andrew's age, and it was no fun. But, I still love fireworks. It sounds like you had a great day otherwise.
Mmmmmmmm, Kalua pig and blueberry cream cheese pie...
What fun!!!!!
Poor Andrew! That had to hurt! He IS getting so grown up. And he's so handsome. Maybe next year we can come out for the 4th. That would be fun.
looks like a great party and the food sounds amazing! hope andrew's hand is feeling better! poor guy. our bishop gave a talk to the kids in primary today about fires and fire extinguishers as an analogy for being prepared . . . the kids went crazy w/ comments about fireworks, fires, injuries, etc. it was so funny. (although burns are not funny - just the way the kids exploded w/ comments)
I'm finally catching up on all of your posts Ginger. It looks like you had a wonderful 4th! I love LOVE that adorable quilt you made for the quilt swap -- and the cute appliqued towels too. And how fun you're going to do the cupcake swap -- I think it will be a really fun swap!!!
Sounds like you had such a nice 4th!!
I LOVE fireworks, but, we can't set them off where I live (well, legally anyway... we didn't! We're good citizens like that).
I love the 4th of July. It's such a fun holiday, but, also such a special one. I echo your sentiments about being grateful to have been born here and about the sacrifices that our Founding Fathers made... We are truly blessed to live in a country where we have so many freedoms.
Have a wonderful week!!
