Every once in a while I get a crazy idea to make something other than a quilt. When Sophie was born, Elliott gave me a great diaper bag from Pottery Barn Kids. I have loved using it. It is large enough to hold lots of gear, along with numerous magazines and drawing supplies that the kids use at church. The bonus is that it really doesn't look like a diaper bag, more like a sophisticated tote.
With summer coming, and now that Sophie doesn't need much more than a diaper when we go on outings, I'm ready for a change. I wanted something light and summery, but still large enough to hold the diaper, wipes, and assorted papers/pencils/magazines to keep the kiddos occupied during church.

I think Amy Butler's Birdie Sling pattern may be my perfect match. It's supposed to be easy even for beginning stitchers, which is really what I am looking for... a quick and easy pattern that won't cause me undue stress! :-) The only hard part will be deciding what fabrics to use!

ooo, that's totally my kind of bag. i can't wait to see how yours turns out!
Love that!
So many cute things, so little time! I'm curious -- did you ever make those stockings from the Christmas book you bought? I've got that book saved in my amazon cart while I try to make up my mind about what stockings to do -- those were adorable!
Oooh, this should be a fun pattern to make -- I think I have it to make too. If that fabric shop in Zionsville (is that where it is -- that doesn't sound right) doesn't have Amy Butler fabrics, Clementine's down in Franklin has lots of them!
Mmm, love bags. Have loads around the house. Can't wait to see how yours turns out. Of course, it will be beautiful, and I will covet it until I make one for myself. But isn't that what blogging is all about? :-)
oooooo.... definitely the polka dot fabric! Love polka dots. :)
I love that bag...you'll be able to do it, no problem! Can't wait to see it!!
hope you'll let us see the finished bag. what a cute pattern.
That is so funny. My friend and I went to our local quilt shop a couple weeks ago and that was the pattern we got to do...I love, love, love her fabrics (and her patterns)! Great minds think alike!
