Help, please!

For our wedding we received a full service of fine china and crystal.  We have used the pieces maybe 3 times.  I'm considering getting rid of them (nesting in full force here... the kind where I am desiring to make space... we have SO much stuff that we don't need!)
However, I admit to a slight sentimental attachment to the pieces, and so I'm debating NOT selling them.  They are very simple, and very pretty (I think).
Here is where you come in...  Do you ever use your fine china?  If so, what types of meals/celebrations do you use it for?  How often?
Thanks much!

Ginger they are great to use at birthdays and special celebrations to make them very special. If you pur them in a cupboard where they are easily available you would use them. You would probably use them more then.
Just a suggestion. I hate to see you sell them and then regret it later,

I wouldn't get rid of them while you are nesting. What if after things have settled down after the baby you are sad that you did? I still wish we had gotten China. Even though we don't have much cause to use it. I think it would be fun to use once the kids are a bit older and won't break it, or if you have any parties just for grown-ups.

Don't sell. :)

Have a special dinner once a month or once every three months where you use your china, everyone dresses up, you have fancier food than you might usually have. Maybe tie it into a different culture?

right after we were married, we traded our brand new china in for a couch. we really needed a couch. we didn't need fancy dishes.

but i think you should keep yours. nesting can make a girl do crazy things. and your china is so pretty and classic. even if you didn't use it for 10 more years, it would still look nice.

glad you are feeling well enough to even think about nesting. i agree with Stephanie - nesting can cause rash decisions. Grammy is right put it where you see it more and use it on Sundays once in a while! mom

we didn't register for any china, and i kind of wish we had, although like you said, it isn't used often. i wouldn't sell if i were you.

How much can you get for it?

Definitely don't sell! I think you'll be more inclined to use it in a few years once your kids are all older. I treasure my mom and grandma's china and love setting it out at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

My step mother said that when she was growing up, the family used the dishes all of the time. My mom has china and VERY expensive crystal. Every holiday we eat off of it, and then we VERY CAREFULLY clean it by hand, towels in the bottom of the sink and all. I loved using those dishes on special occasions, even as a young child. I think a couple broke, but they still have great memories. As for me, I bought LOTS of cobalt blue glass dishes and glasses when we were married. I bought lots because I didn't want them to break and not be able to replace them. I guess while I love helping mom take care of her dishes, I like knowing that if one breaks, I didn't just shatter a bunch of cash on the floor. That being said, I will probably inherit them...
